Buildings play a pivotal role in the path towards European carbon neutrality, and will need to adapt to changing requirements in terms of energy systems, communications, intelligent control and occupant health and wellness.
We aim to provide supports to building owners in understanding and adapting to these new technologies and policy requirements, while also improving overall building energy performance, cost savings and occupant satisfaction.
Daniel Coakley is a research consultant with over 10 years’ experience in academic and industrial research. His main focus is on developing solutions for improving resource efficiency in the built environment, with particular emphasis on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems (HVACS), including heat recovery ventilation and heat pump systems. His current research interests include: (1) Intelligent Building controls, Smart Grid and Demand Response; (2) Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ); and (3) Building Energy Simulation.
Daniel holds a B.E in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and is currently undertaking an Executive MBA at the University of Edinburgh. He is a CIBSE Chartered Engineer (CEng) and an AEE Certified Energy Manager (CEM). Daniel has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and international conference papers. He is also a reviewer for a number of academic journals including: Applied Energy, Building Simulation, Energy and Buildings, and Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.
Daniel is the current Regional Vice-Chair for Research Promotion in ASHRAE Region XIV (Europe) and Secretary of ASHRAE Ireland Chapter. He is also an expert reviewer for the European Commission Executive Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises (EASME).
